Re: What do you guys think?
Thank you guys for all the advice
We asked my daughter what she would rather have and she picked the Cockatiel. So we are going to see about getting her a hand feed baby. So when we get it I'll be sure to post pics.
Re: What do you guys think?
We had a budgie, and then cockatiels when my girls were little. My oldest had the most special budgie. Tweetie bird. She would sit on my knee while I was in the bathtub. My daughter would stroll her around in her little baby buggie. That bird was one of a kind, and we all loved it.
Re: What do you guys think?
A cockatiel or a budgie would be a great choice. Parrotlets can tend to be nippy and are just so tiny... I had a budgie growing up as a child and I just loved it. Budgies are a little quieter than a cockatiel and also can learn to talk very well. Either would be great to teach responsibility to a child of that age.

We did for our daughter, she is 12 and my son is 9, they both are doing really well with it. And that is the same reason we got them theirs lol. SweetHeart would go to them but not hang out with them, this little cockatiel just loves to be wherever they are!

Parrotlet would be something to look into. I personal never had any luck with my cockatiel as a kid. It hated me, and for no reason I was a good pet owner!lol

Hello,
I will agree with Tammy whole heartily. A cockateil is a great bird for a child. They are very mild mannered and like Tammy said it will give your daughter some responsability. My son Joey has 10 cockateils now and he has full control of them. I only help him with the vet bills and the questions that he cant get answers for. My son looks up to me for the good solid advice that I give him and he really loves the birds more now because he understands them much more. I have had teils for many years and you will not find a better family bird then them. They will be very good with ALL people and will not choose only one person to be close to. I would say you will make a very good choice to get a teil for a 9 year old.

The way I see it I can't harm her. It would teach her the responsibility of caring for something. Cockatiel are lovely birds, I know Mario's son also has and he is very good with them.
