Re: Pics of the baby!
Hello,
The beak question you are asking about. The color changes as the baby gets older. A lot of species have a beak color change as the get older. Such species are lovebirds, bungies, teils, some amazons, the grey, ringnecks, alexandrians, and some conures. The reason for this is in the wild it acts a way of camo. In the nest the chicks are left to fend for themselves at times when the parents are out getting food. A birds eye view of the nest will show you that a baby is open for easy pickings for predators and birds of prey. The camo of the feathers and the bill keeps a chick a little more safe form the elements of the surrounding areas. This is a little info for all of you to understand why some bills change colors.

I can also see a hint of purple. I must have a good look at my baby (nameless) and see.
I love the picture of the goffin and Timneh babies together.

Claire to be honest I have no idea and the fidgety pants doesn't keep still for a minute so I am battling to weigh him/her. I am going to be taking baby to the vet to have the other wing clipped and I will ask him to weigh him/her.

How cute Claire! And yes I see the purplish, that is the same color that SweetHeart is, I think it's just the way their color is, sometimes hers seems a little more noticeable than others.
And no Lyric I didn't know that about the beaks. SweetHeart's tail is barely even maroon, don't know if that comes with age or what. That's interesting though. And now that you mention it, I totally see it, here is a pic of Casper our Goffin in with a Timneh when he was small, they were little buddies!

Well I came home and she was being so cute and trying so hard (under supervision) that I had to take some pics! And does anyone see what I mean about the purplish tint she has?

Re: Pics of the baby!
Lyric, my baby Timneh also has bright red tail feathers. And at 3 months old s/he's beak is already changed to the bone colour. Interesting though about the tail feathers, do you by any chance know when they chnage colour.

So Cute! What did you end up naming your baby?
By the way, Ronda, you mentioned in an earlier post in this thread about looking at his beak, but did you know that Timnehs have black beaks too when they are little?? They don't start to change color until they are feathered and starting to fledge. And, actually Lyric's first baby tail feathers were a bright red just like a Congo too. I don't know if that is normal for baby timnehs or not but I know the beak thing is. It's interesting to watch it as it starts to fade in color.
Just some info for you... now you know everything so watch out world!

Re: Pics of the baby!
Well here she is at 8 weeks. She's a beast lol. She is eating lots of regular foods. Perching a lot, playing a lot, sleeping some

Re: Pics of the baby!
Claire I know Casper was perching at around 6 or 7 weeks old. I think. Now granite you know he is a Goffin and not a CAG. But Janice had him on millet and stuff pretty early as well. Maybe she will be on soon to tell you more.

Re: Pics of the baby!
Ok....this bird is crazy...He started perching today! He is eating cheerios and millet and a little bit of softened pellets...Is it too soon for all of this?? He tries so very hard with perching...He pulled himself up with his beak and held on and was doing a "fly fly" flapping like crazy! Does it seem like too much too soon or should I just let him go? I put him in a regular (small) cage with towels at the bottom b/c he was trying to escape from the aquarium and he was always too hot with any heat source (it's been warm here about 75-76 indoors). Anyone??
