Question on cage size Empty Re: Question on cage size

well i found out these 2 birds were of the same sex......this would explain the fighting they do everyday.
Instead of one big cage.I have put them into 2 different cages along side of each other and now they are doing better.
everyday the scarlet went after the military and not in a caring matter.....
since i was not able to talk to the original owner before placement with me i assume by the guy that placed them they were at least bonded.
No bonding with these 2.
Now they seem very happy and the scarlet is actually letting you touch her.
the military loves to be talked to he will even raise his wings for you.
but thanks for the help on the cage size....donna

Thanks for your help!
right now they are in a old breeder cage that is 3-4 feet wide and about 4 feet tall. with a box on it.
We went yesterday and got a couple of large cages...And i think one of them would make a better home for them.
its about 5 feet wide and about 5-6 feet tall.i just cant see keeping them in such a small cage. They dont even have room to stretch there wings out.
But with the new cage at these they can stretch and actually move around..
again thanks for the help!! donna

Pattie (buffons) and Sasha (scarlet) at my work have a 46" cage they sleep in. They spend most of the day outside of it so that is why it's not that big. The breeder pair of Hyacinth macaws are in a double macaw cage which is more like 64" wide. Remember bigger is always better.

I would assume something like a double macaw cage would be necessary. I believe the dimensions of those are: Width 64" Depth 32" Height 73" OR 80"x40"x61". I am sure someone who actuallys has those birds will be by shortly to comment.

I took in a pair of macaws.
1 is a scarlet and the other is a military. They have been housed together for a long time.
But the cage they came in to me looks real small.
its an old breeder cage.
I would like to put them in one of my cal cages, but would like to know, what you guys think on what size of cage should be good for them?.thanks donna
