Hello,

I posted a post about body language. You should look it up and read it. You will be very pleased with the info that is in the post. Learn the signs and you will be spared the bite.

I have kinda learned some of her moods...LOL!! When she puts her brella up, and lowers her head and her wings sorta spread she is going to bite! But when she bit me the first time, there was alot of things going on. Lots of people around and lots of movement around. I think she just got over excited and just bit me. I dont hold it against her...LOL!! I WAS a bit "gun shy" of her for a short period of time , but we are ok now Smile

I been bite a few time, nothing really bad yet( Now watch me get bite real bad now Smile ) but I can tell when Charlie or Chad are going to bite. They have these tells that give them away. But the rest, for the life of me, I can figure out they tell, just yet. Althose, my greenwing Sammie, if he going to bite, all I do is move that BIG beack of his! lol

Well hang in there and you'll get through this.
Here's a quick tip for you. Sometimes I can tell Lyric IS going to bite me- when i bring him to work with me he's real territorial about his cage here for some reason and if he's sitting on top and doesn't want to step up he will bite. When I have to handle him and know I'm going to get bitten I wrap my hand in a bath towel, wrap it several times around so all they get is the towel when they bite. Then he realizes it isn't going to do him any good to bite, he'll have to do what I want him to. After I get him to step up he is fine.
You can try this with your girl anytime you feel uncomfortable but also need to handle her.
There's a few birds out there that don't bite but I think all-in-all most will bite sometime or other in their lives.

Thanks guys. I have bacome a bit "gun shy" of her. I really tried not to react to the bite pale I'm better now with her I do understand that she is a bird, and she cannot "talk" so that was her way of telling me something . LOL! the next day though she was really lovey dovey with me and JUST wanted me. I think she was telling me she was sorry , but I'm still a little jumpy, but after that bite, I really don't want another one Shocked . I really think what it was , My brother and his girlfriend and my daughter and a few friends where all in the kitchen and she was in there with me "doing laundry" and she got to excited. The bite is healing well, it's still brusied pretty good. Hard to wear my seatbelt though...LOL!!

Sorry to hear about this Christy! It isn't fun to be bitten by your own beloved baby! Ronda gave you the best advice for this though- try not to react if you can help it except for a firm no, dirty look and putting the bird in the cage for time out. It isn't easy to do, I know.
Try to watch her closely and if you see signs that she is getting overstimulated, put her down and let her calm down before resuming interaction.
I hope you can keep working with her and not become scared of her because of this.

Ouch Christy! Sad I know this will be hard to do, but any time a bird/parrot bites you try your very best to not react to it. Tell them no no in a firm voice and put them in their cage for about 15 minutes. But try not to scream or yell or jerk. They think all that is fun and games and will keep doing it to get that reaction. It is spring time, she may be going through some hormone changes. Even when they pick their one to be with, you will still get beat up when they go through these hormonal changes. It will pass but it may be a while. Stick it out with her for you do know her true colors. Just as hard as it may be don't let her get you scared to touch her. Just tell her no and put her away for a little bit. And try to act like nothing happened the next time you have her out.

Now coming from an EMT stand point with your cut, make sure you put some antibiotic ointment on it. If there is still skin hanging you can get stitches. If it hasn't been over 8 hours. If it has stitches won't do you any good. The dead piece of skin will just have to fall off and heal from there. Try your best to keep it clean but it will heal much faster if you can let it get air without bandaging it up. You said it was on your chest, your shirt for the most part should keep it clean, just for the first few days keep an antibiotic ointment on it and than leave it be after that, keeping it wet with ointment won't let it heal either but you need the antibiotic the first few days to save it from infection. Hope this helps you and sorry that you got your first bite!
