Re: Hi from Oklahoma
hey there littlebit, welcome, my name is kim. if you have any questions just ask, since you are looking for a new parrot, you should do what i did and checking out the breeders online. that is how i found one for my african grey. this was the only bird i got from a breeder the rest were rescued birds, my parrolet and my sun conure, and i got a quaker from outside in my moms back yard... if your really into the macaws just go to some websites and look....well good luck in what you choose.. and we are all here for you, i dont get on much but i will try to come in more often.,..

Re: Hi from Oklahoma
Welcome here. I commend you for reading and learning all you can before you bring a bird into your life. They are a big commitment as any pet is and require lots of attention!
You'll have to decide what you have time and space (and eardrums) for before you commit to any particular kind of bird. Cockatoos are not generally recommended for first time bird owners due to the level of care they demand. They need lots of hands on attention every day, and are more likely to develop behavior problems if they don't get what they need. Plus they are LOUD. They need very large cages, lots of toys to chew and destroy and a person with the patience to deal with their issues. I'm not saying that a cockatoo can't be a good pet, I just hope you do lots of research and perhaps even visit and be around some before you make a decision like that.
Blue crown conures are one species you mentioned and I think that would be a great choice for a first time bird. They can be very loud as all conures can, but they generally have a sweet temperment and are not as demanding or prone to problems as some of the bigger parrots. I'd recommend finding a local breeder and visiting with them and their birds and see what comes of it. Good luck!

Re: Hi from Oklahoma
Welcome to the site, there's not many of us left here that visit as often as we used to but if you ask a question I'm sure it will get answered!
As far as a Goffin goes, I would not suggest that for a first time owner of large birds. They are very needy!! And will yell at the top of their lungs if they don't get that one on one time lol. I know from experience! Your doing good though with researching and getting info before you make a decision! Don't just buy any of them because you like the way they look. Read up on their temperaments and if they would be good for a beginner. Parrots are very pretty but they can also be very overwhelming if you don't know what your getting into. That's why there are soo many re-homes for birds and parrots that have problems because their owners didn't take the time to read and know what they were getting into before hand. Take your time, your future parrot will love you for it! If you have any questions let us know! And again Welcome!

Hi from Oklahoma
Hello everyone I'm new to the site. I currently don't own any birds just yet. I've always wanted one. So I'm reading and learning more and more each day. I will say I'm in love with the Macaws. Blue and Golds, and the greenwing are so beautiful. I also like the blue crown conure. I'm waiting for my tax return to get in then I plan on getting one. Just don't know what exactly. I will admit that I saw a gorgeous goffin I just don't know I think I'm falling in love with them all. Well I look forward to hearing everyone's advice and getting to know everyone.
Oh I can't wait either. I have decided that I want to visit the place I get a bird from. I want to make sure they are healthy, happy, and have been taken very good care of. I've seen some horrible videos and pictures of how some breeders or bird factory's treat there animals and I don't want any part of it. I've seen alot of dedicated loving bird lovers who treat there birds like they are there children.
