Sometimes I have to sneak food as Mischief can't eat it and I feel really bad when I can't give Mischief some as well. Laughing

I thought they would be better than regular cookies, but wasnt sure. And it keeps the birds happy when we are nibbling! Otherwise I would be hiding in the kitchen trying to eat (which i have done on occasion Smile)

List of some good foods to feed your parrots/birds Empty Rusks

Post by Mischief Thu Mar 20, 2008 2:54 am

Siobhan,

I must tell you my Mischief an ringneck also goes crazy for Rusks, I usually only give a very small piece as I am also scared of giving too much sugar. Mischief even knows the look of the packaging already.

A rusks is a very doughy biscuit, that is baked in the shape of a loaf of bread and broken apart when baked, we have buttemilk, aniseed, etc flavours here is SA. This is usually eaten by being dunked in tea or coffee.

I hope this helps. Tammy

Don't you feed your babies (human variety) a type of soft cookie??? You disolve it in baby formula or they can eat it like a cookie. Its got no sugar and is fortified with vitamins and minerals. We call it a rusk.

I have honestly never heard of those Siobhan. I will try to look them up. Hopefully someone else will know the answer, but I will try to research them!

Is it a good idea or a bad idea to feed baby rusks to birds? My guys go mad when we are having biscuits with a cup of tea but I dont like giving them so much sugar so I give them a finger of Liga which is a baby rusk. What do you think?

There are some really good reads about the food and what each individual species eats on this page as well. It is a good read if anyone has the time.
