Re: people and birds
Kimmie,
I turely now how you feel! I have been cut down for having a Cockatoo as a first bird. I been called crazy, stupid, you name it. But I look at it this way....I WANTED this bird, it was my choice no one else. You did what you felt was right. Ronda is right, you did all the things you could do to make sure it was healthy. And like you said...just because someone has had a bird their whole life, dose not mean that they know whats best for someone elses bird. I think you did a great job! Don't worry about what other people say.......THEY ARE JUST WORDS Besides this place is alot friendler anyway! Good Luck!

Re: people and birds
Well Kimmie your fine, for one you quarantined it, two you took it to the vet, three you got online and talk to owners who have owned one and looked up sites about them to learn on them. You did good!
We were given Molly our Quaker at the last second cause the owner's wife couldn't stand her and flicked her in the head and left her in a dark stair well. We knew nothing about them! I came home and learned everything I could for days I spent hours and hours on the computer learning about this little green bird. I joined a forum and asked and asked and asked! We did not own anything else such as a bird, never even a cockatiel before. But we felt we had to take this bird out of it's abused environment. She was 3 when we got her and she is now 12. We now have a African Grey and a Goffin Cockatoo and a cockatiel as well. Can we give love to all of them, you bet. Everyone's circumstances are different, some can give the love and others have to work all the time and can't give that kind of attention. Some birds don't need constant attention which works great too. It varies for everyone. And for someone to put you down like that is bull. You did the important things with the vet and separating the quaker from your flock and taking it into a loving home. So don't sweat what other people think. The forum you speak of does have some members on there that I could def do without and that is why you barely see me there. The site does have good info and there are some members there that are great, but others that just think their always right and their rear end smells like roses. So don't worry about them, worry about your bird. Your doing a good job!

people and birds
I'm tired of people jumping on me in private messages in the greyforum over me having a new bird. I told this person like i tell anyone else my bird is under quarantine and also was taken to the vet which i did blood work and everything else that they could do to the lil one and i got back a clean bill of health just that it was a little under weight. i still have it under quarantine due to it just makes me feel better extra protection is what i call it lol but after quarantine is up im going to put him in the same room with the others. i may not be a bird expert, but i have read enough to know a few things and coming into the wings and wisdom site has help me alot. but the whole greyforum i still have a few friends over there but some of the people i have met over there are not too friendly when it comes to other people than themselves having birds. just cause they have had birds there whole life doesnt mean they know everything. i was told that i shouldnt have a quaker due to i have never had one, and then that it is not fair for my grey cause he is a baby and still needs alot of attention.........i give all the birds the same attention i dont see the problem......and yeah im the type of person that like to read about birds before getting one,but this time i couldnt due to it flew in my moms yard and i already knew what kind of bird it was. so yeah i took it home and put it in a different room and went straight online for some info........ i guess doing what i did makes me a bad owner to this person out there oh well i guess she will get over it lol
