Ok I found out it is a Scarlet Macaw. It has the white top beak, the black bottom beak and yellow on it's wings along with the green and blue. And all red body.

I called the nephew and asked him about it. He said the owner finally let him have it. I told him about the food for him and he has taken it to the local vet I guess which is better than no vet, I asked him if he had toys and he said yes, and I also told him since they had one young kid there that the old toys that weren't too little would be good toys for him also. He has a huge cage. They leave the door open for him to go in and out of during the day and they feed him the parrot mix that you buy at walmart and also fruits he said along with what they are having for dinner. I also told him that if he has any questions to please let us know, and if he goes to get rid of him to please please call me. There is another guy that is his uncle that offered him money for it, and actually he would take good care of it, so if we don't get it, hopefully he will. Just I know how these people are around here and if someone has something good to trade for the bird, the bird will be leaving. The original owner traded a pickup truck and 500 dollars for it. So I will keep everyone updated and hopefully we will be able to see him before too long. If he happens to be sold to his uncle than I can see him more often because he only lives 15 minutes away and we are always over there on the weekends anyway. So he's not as bad off as I thought, they are trying, and just need to learn more about them and they are doing that, but just a bad choice of bird to start with. But he was just trying to help the guy by taking the bird and than he really started to like it. So I'll let you know if there are any changes. Thanks everyone!!

Hello Ronda,

If it is a greenwing you will have a better tempered bird on your hands. Grenwings are so gentel in general and can be tamed a lot easier then the scarlett. Try to find out what it is I am courious to know. Dont for get that if you say it is a red bird and has blue and gold it might be a Catalina Macaw. Just a idea for you to look at.

Well thank you Mario for your concern, I will be careful. To be honest with you, I'm not 100% sure it is a Scarlet. They just told me it was a red big parrot lol. So I am hoping it may be a Green Winged. They did say it has the blue and green on it. I will have to see once I see it if I get to see it. And they can already hold the parrot. So it shouldn't be too hard to handle him, but we will do soo with much caution! And I thank you for thinking of all of us!

Hello Ronda,

You go for it. I must tell you though you will be getting into a rough situation with a scarlett. They are very nasty at times and will strike at ANYTHING that comes near them. Be careful with the kids around the bird. Scarletts are very very moody and will thing nothing about giving you a nasty nip. A bird of the calibur needs a lot of time and there will be NO guarntee that you will be able to ever hold the bird. At least you will give it a much better home, and a better quality of life. Please hear the warning though be very careful with a scarlett. You need to tell the kids to stay clear of the bird until you feel comfy with the bird. I just dont want to hear that your children found out just how hard and fast they can strike.

I am actually going to start tomorrow on trying to rescue one of these beautiful birds!

Story goes like this, my husband's best friend's nephew was given one of these to take care of. He is basically just watching the bird I guess. The actual owner of the bird is now gone, she got in a car accident and her husband didn't want the bird, but I guess didn't want to really get rid of it, being it was HER bird. The owner doesn't go and see it at all, he does however drop off seed for it, but from my understanding it is only sunflower seeds. The nephew that has it has a bad wife, and lets just say they can't take care of their kids much less a bird! They have gotten the kids taken away from them. The bird has plucked, it's on a wrong diet, and they give it no positive attention. I am going to try to call the nephew tomorrow and see what the name of the guy that actually owns it, so I can call him and talk to him. I want to tell him that it would be better if he was in a loving home that knows about parrots rather than someone who has never even owned a budgie much less a big macaw. Just from talking to his mom, they are very mean to this big guy! They only feed him what they have for dinner and the seeds that the guy brings over. I will keep you all updated on what I find out, cause honestly if I can go and see this bird and all this stuff is true, and the owner doesn't give me the bird, I'm calling the local Pet control, and being that parrots aren't popular around here in these neck of the woods, they may just be able to place him with us anyway. But I'll keep ya updated

I tell you this is a beautiful bird. To see them free fly is something that you will never forget. There is a show here in Busch Gardens that have these beauty's free flying. I tell you I get the chill bumbs watching them fly. What colors and what finess they fly with. The Scarlett is not a bird for everyone. They are known as a bird with a big attitude. They are very nasty at times and will bite the hand that feeds it. So if this is on you list please do alot of research before jumping into the beauty of the bird.

Description: Its bright blue, yellow, and red feathers make it stand out in the middle of many birds. Macaws are the largest parrots in the rainforest. Its face is filled with hairs. The macaw's lower beak is black while its upper beak is white. The average adult grows to a height of three feet and weighs approx 3 pounds.

Natural Habitat: Scarlet Macaws live in tropical forests. They also live high in nests on branches. Some of them are found as far north as Mexico. Usually Macaws live as far south as Peru, South America and Brazil.

Life Span: Approx 75 to 90 years but many live longer than that.

Personality: They're more aggressive than other macaws. They're well known to be willful. They can easily become one-person birds.
My opinion is that only people who've had past experience with macaws should purchase this type of macaw. When they're in a bad mood they are known to bite with little provocation.

Cage: Approx 40 in x 60 inches.--LARGE /EXTRA LARGE CATEGORY. A playstand is necessary and freedom from it's cage is important.

Diet: Nuts, seed and fruit forming the basis of their diet, although a complete diet can also be used. Human foods and various poultry bones are well liked. This magnificent bird loves to eat many different varieties of fruits and nuts. Normally, it likes to eat palm nuts, bananas, papayas, figs, berries. A good Parrot mix should be available.Scarlett Macaw =the most beautiful colors of the Macaws= 100_3853
